Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated thriller Raid 2, which made a decent impact at the box office, is now headed for its digital premiere on Netflix. The sequel to the 2018 hit Raid will begin streaming on June 26, as announced by the platform. The film stars Devgn as Amay Patnaik, a principled income tax officer, alongside Riteish Deshmukh in a pivotal antagonist role. While the film garnered mixed-to-positive reviews, it impressed audiences with its sharp narrative and intense face-offs. With its OTT release, Raid 2 aims to reach a broader audience and continue its momentum in the digital space.

Streaming Debut on Netflix

Netflix India officially confirmed the OTT release of Raid 2 through a post on Instagram, unveiling the film’s digital premiere date as June 26. The streaming giant captioned the poster with, “Aaj se ulti ginti shuru. Amay Patnaik is back with a new case and the same old fire,” creating anticipation among fans who missed the film in theatres or are eager to revisit it.

The film follows the success of its predecessor, Raid (2018), which was both a critical and commercial success. With a stellar cast and an engaging plotline, Raid 2 attempts to build on that legacy.

Storyline: Corruption, Power, and Confrontation

Raid 2 continues the saga of Amay Patnaik, portrayed by Ajay Devgn, who is transferred to Bhoj after being falsely accused of bribery. In this new locale, he crosses paths with Dada Bhai (Riteish Deshmukh), a shrewd and influential political figure beloved by the masses. As Amay uncovers discrepancies and illicit activities, he initiates a series of raids, triggering a tense battle of wits and power.

The narrative delves into systemic corruption and the risks of challenging entrenched political influence. While the premise is grounded in the gritty realities of income tax enforcement, it maintains a dramatic edge that appeals to a broader audience.

Cast and Production Insights

Apart from Devgn and Deshmukh, the film features Vaani Kapoor in a significant role and brings back Saurabh Shukla in a special appearance, reprising his character from the original Raid. The film is produced by industry heavyweights Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, and Krishan Kumar under the banners of T-Series and Panorama Studios.

The directorial reins were again handed to Raj Kumar Gupta, best known for No One Killed Jessica and Ghanchakkar, who brings a familiar tone of urgency and suspense to the film’s storytelling.

Critical Reception and Audience Response

Raid 2 received a mix of reviews upon its theatrical release. While the first half of the film was praised for its unpredictable twists and pacing, critics pointed out that the second half relied too heavily on convenient plot resolutions. An excerpt from a leading review noted, “The film begins promisingly, with a twist at almost every turn... but falters due to its reliance on ease and coincidence.”

Nonetheless, the film's strong box office performance indicates a favorable response from mainstream viewers, particularly fans of socially relevant thrillers and high-stakes investigative dramas.

Outlook and Digital Prospects

The move to Netflix is expected to give Raid 2 a fresh lease on viewership, especially among digital-native audiences who favor political thrillers and procedural dramas. With Ajay Devgn's growing presence in the digital space and Riteish Deshmukh's noteworthy turn as an antagonist, the film could see renewed popularity on the OTT platform.

As audiences turn to streaming platforms for cinematic experiences at home, Raid 2 stands poised to capture the interest of both loyal fans and first-time viewers.
