In a significant development poised to reshape Mumbai's energy landscape, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), also known as Mahavitaran, has formally petitioned the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) for a parallel licence to distribute electricity in Mumbai. The move would place the state-run utility in direct competition with existing private and civic distributors, including Adani Electricity, Tata Power, and BEST.
