Government Announces Rs. 4,531-Crore Market Access Support to Boost Indian Exports

The government has approved Rs. 4,531 crore in market access support aimed at strengthening India’s export competitiveness and expanding the global footprint of domestic producers. The funding is designed to help exporters overcome non-tariff barriers, improve market penetration and adapt to evolving international trade standards. By offering targeted assistance across sectors, the initiative seeks to reduce entry costs in overseas markets while supporting branding, compliance and outreach efforts. Trade experts say the move comes at a critical time, as exporters navigate subdued global demand and intensifying competition, making policy-backed support essential for sustaining export momentum.

Strengthening Market Access for Exporters

The approved Rs. 4,531-crore allocation is intended to help Indian exporters gain better access to key global markets. The support focuses on addressing structural challenges such as regulatory compliance, certification requirements and market intelligence gaps that often limit export growth.

By lowering these barriers, the initiative aims to enhance the ability of Indian firms to compete effectively in both developed and emerging economies.

Focus on Non-Tariff Barriers

Non-tariff measures, including technical standards and quality norms, have become increasingly significant in global trade. The market access support program is structured to help exporters meet these requirements through testing, certification and product adaptation.

Officials said the funding would also assist exporters in responding to trade restrictions and evolving sustainability and traceability standards in overseas markets.

Sectoral Outreach and Branding Efforts

A portion of the support is expected to be directed toward export promotion activities such as trade fairs, buyer-seller meets and branding initiatives. These efforts are aimed at improving visibility for Indian products and building long-term relationships with international buyers.

Labor-intensive and value-added sectors are likely to receive focused attention, given their role in employment generation and export diversification.

Supporting SMEs and New Exporters

Small and medium enterprises stand to benefit significantly from the program, as they often lack the resources to navigate complex foreign market requirements. By providing institutional support, the initiative seeks to level the playing field for smaller exporters.

This approach aligns with broader efforts to broaden India’s export base and encourage first-time exporters.

Outlook for Export Growth

Trade analysts view the Rs. 4,531-crore market access support as a timely intervention amid challenging global trade conditions. While execution will be critical, the funding provides a strong policy signal of the government’s commitment to export-led growth.

If implemented effectively, the initiative could help Indian exporters improve competitiveness, diversify markets and sustain export performance over the medium term.
