TEMBO Defence Secures 100 Acres in Maharashtra to Boost India’s Self-Reliant Defence Manufacturing

TEMBO Defence, a subsidiary of Tembo Global Industries Ltd, has secured an in-principle commitment for 100 acres of land in Amravati, Maharashtra, to establish a new arms and ammunition manufacturing facility. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has issued a comfort letter to support the project, marking a major milestone in TEMBO’s expansion into India’s strategic defence manufacturing sector. This initiative not only aligns with the government’s 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' campaigns but is also poised to generate employment and reinforce domestic defence capabilities through localized production.

Strategic Expansion in Defence Manufacturing

In a bold move aligned with India's national security goals, TEMBO Defence announced its forthcoming venture to establish an arms and ammunition production facility in Amravati, Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government, through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), has extended its support by issuing a comfort letter assuring the allocation of 100 acres of land for the project.

This expansion is a critical step for TEMBO Defence, a wholly owned subsidiary of TEMBO Global Industries Ltd, as it pivots from core industrial components to playing a key role in India’s defence ecosystem.

Strengthening India’s Strategic Autonomy

The upcoming facility is expected to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing capabilities, in line with the government's ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. These national strategies aim to reduce dependence on foreign imports, boost indigenous technology development, and promote local industrial growth.

“This land allocation is a monumental step toward our vision of contributing to India's self-reliance in the defence manufacturing sector,” said Sanjay J Patel, Managing Director of TEMBO Global Industries Ltd. He further emphasized that the facility would significantly contribute to the region’s economic development by generating employment and infrastructure investments.

TEMBO's Engineering Legacy and Defence Transition

Tembo Global Industries has historically specialized in the manufacturing and assembly of precision-engineered components such as pipe support systems, fasteners, anti-vibration equipment, and anchors. These are used across industrial, commercial, utility, and OEM installations globally.

With the formation of TEMBO Defence, the company is strategically diversifying into high-value defence manufacturing, capitalizing on its technical expertise and supply chain infrastructure. The move reflects a broader trend of Indian industrial players transitioning into the strategic defence segment, backed by supportive policy frameworks and demand for indigenous solutions.

Implications for the Region and Sector

The establishment of the Amravati plant is expected to create significant employment opportunities and position the region as a potential hub for defence production. The project will likely encourage ancillary industries and local supplier networks, amplifying its impact on the broader manufacturing economy.

Moreover, the development of such indigenous capabilities can offer India greater strategic flexibility and resilience, especially in the face of geopolitical uncertainties and global supply chain disruptions.

Outlook: Building a Future-Ready Defence Economy

TEMBO Defence’s announcement signals a broader shift in India’s industrial landscape—where traditional engineering firms are evolving into defence technology providers. With land secured and governmental support in place, the project could become a model for public-private collaboration in national security.

As the global arms trade becomes more competitive and security demands grow, India’s ambition to localize defence production stands to gain considerable momentum. TEMBO’s venture into Amravati is more than an industrial expansion—it is a commitment to nation-building and future readiness.
