Kotak and Motilal Mutual Funds Invest ₹169 Crore in Rubicon Research Ahead of IPO

Kotak Mutual Fund and Motilal Mutual Fund have jointly invested approximately ₹169 crore in Rubicon Research Ltd, acquiring a 2.25% stake ahead of the company's Initial Public Offering (IPO). This strategic move underscores the growing interest in India's pharmaceutical sector, with Rubicon's upcoming IPO aiming to raise ₹1,377.5 crore to fund debt repayment and strategic growth initiatives.

Investment Details

General Atlantic Singapore RR Pte Ltd, the current promoter of Rubicon Research, transferred a total of 34.86 lakh equity shares at ₹484.47 per share, amounting to ₹169 crore. The breakdown of the investment is as follows:

  • Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund: Acquired 16.4 lakh shares (1.06% stake) for ₹79.4 crore.
  • Kotak Midcap Fund: Purchased 13.3 lakh shares (0.86% stake) for ₹64.4 crore.
  • Kotak Manufacture In India Fund: Bought 5.16 lakh shares (0.33% stake) for ₹25 crore.

These investments were made in the secondary market and are separate from the shares being offered in the forthcoming IPO.

IPO Details

Rubicon Research's IPO is set to open on October 9, 2025, and close on October 13, 2025. The issue comprises a fresh issue of equity shares worth ₹500 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of ₹877.5 crore by General Atlantic. The price band for the IPO is set between ₹461 and ₹485 per share, with a minimum lot size of 30 shares, amounting to an investment of ₹14,550 at the upper price band.

Proceeds from the fresh issue will be utilized for debt repayment (₹310 crore), funding inorganic growth through acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Thane, Maharashtra, Rubicon Research Ltd is a pharmaceutical company specializing in the development and commercialization of specialty products and drug-device combination products for regulated markets, primarily focusing on the United States. The company boasts a robust product portfolio, including 72 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs), nine new drug applications (NDAs), and one over-the-counter monograph approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
