Bengaluru Sees Disturbing Spate of Domestic Murders Involving Tech Professionals

By Nishant Verma , 9 June 2025

Bengaluru has witnessed two grim incidents involving the murders of women by their intimate partners, both professionals in the tech sector. In a recent case, 33-year-old Harini was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend after she began distancing herself from him. Earlier, a techie was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to flee with her body concealed in a suitcase. These cases underscore troubling patterns of domestic violence and relationship turmoil within the city’s growing tech community, raising urgent concerns about mental health, conflict resolution, and safety within intimate relationships.

Fatal Stabbing in Poorna Prajna Layout

On Friday night, Harini, a 33-year-old resident of Kengeri, was found murdered in an OYO hotel in Bengaluru’s Poorna Prajna Layout. The accused, 25-year-old tech professional Yashas, reportedly killed Harini after she had been distancing herself from him over the previous two months.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Lokesh Jagalasar, the couple had known each other for about a year, with tensions escalating as the victim sought to create distance in their relationship. The suspect’s anger culminated in the fatal stabbing. Yashas is currently held in court custody under the jurisdiction of the Subramanyapura Police Station.

Earlier Incident: Techie Arrested for Spousal Murder

In a separate but related case in March, Bengaluru police apprehended a techie accused of murdering his wife, 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambekar. The suspect allegedly concealed her body inside a suitcase and fled to Pune before being tracked down by law enforcement.

The accused reportedly consumed poison and confessed to the crime during a distressing phone call to the victim’s parents. Gauri, who had a background in mass media and was unemployed at the time, had been living with her husband in Doddakannahalli under the jurisdiction of Hulimavu Police Station. The couple had relocated from Maharashtra just two months prior to the incident.

Implications and Response

These tragic cases bring to light the darker undercurrents of domestic conflict within Bengaluru’s burgeoning tech sector, highlighting issues of emotional distress, possessiveness, and violence. Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate these incidents thoroughly while urging awareness around mental health and relationship counseling.

The incidents also emphasize the critical need for early intervention strategies and support systems to prevent intimate partner violence, especially in fast-paced urban environments where stress and personal pressures can escalate unchecked.

Conclusion

Bengaluru’s recent domestic homicide cases involving young professionals underscore a pressing societal challenge that transcends economic and educational backgrounds. As authorities pursue justice, there is a collective call for strengthened protective frameworks and community resources to address the roots of such violence and safeguard vulnerable individuals.
