The imposition of higher tariffs by the United States on several categories of imports has sparked concern among exporters in Uttar Pradesh, with former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav describing the move as “disastrous” for the state’s economy. Uttar Pradesh, a hub for leather, textiles, handicrafts, and agricultural exports, is heavily dependent on foreign markets, particularly the U.S.

India’s honey export industry, a crucial segment within the agricultural export basket, has witnessed a notable price revision, with export rates reduced to Rs. 1,400 per tonne. This adjustment comes in response to global market dynamics, where heightened competition, fluctuating demand, and cost pressures are reshaping the pricing structure of agricultural commodities. For exporters, the revised price point reflects both an opportunity to remain competitive in international markets and a challenge in balancing profitability against rising production costs.

Tamil Nadu, known for its thriving textile and leather industries, has recently positioned itself as a significant player in global footwear exports, particularly in supplying products for the renowned sportswear brand, New Balance. Leveraging its skilled workforce, robust supply chains, and supportive government policies, the state has seen a marked surge in outbound shipments of branded footwear. This expansion highlights India’s growing relevance in the global sports apparel and footwear market, while simultaneously boosting local employment and manufacturing capacity.

The Indian government has rolled out a six-year Export Promotion Mission (EPM) worth Rs. 25,000 crore to strengthen the country’s global trade competitiveness. The initiative aims to support exporters across key sectors through incentives, infrastructure development, and policy facilitation. Designed to complement India’s goal of achieving $1 trillion in exports by the end of the decade, the EPM seeks to reduce trade bottlenecks, expand market access, and encourage innovation-led exports.

The Andhra Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation has raised concerns over the potential repercussions of U.S. tariff measures on Indian exports, warning that regional industries could face mounting pressure if trade barriers intensify. Sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and food processing are expected to bear the brunt, given their significant exposure to American markets. The chamber emphasized that the imposition of higher duties not only risks eroding India’s competitiveness but also threatens employment and investment in export-driven clusters.

The Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) has partnered with WinZO, a leading interactive entertainment platform, to strengthen India’s position in the global gaming industry. This collaboration is aimed at enhancing India’s gaming exports, positioning the country as a competitive player in the international digital entertainment space. With the domestic gaming market experiencing rapid growth, India is now looking beyond its borders to capture export opportunities.

India is ramping up its export strategy by focusing on 50 priority countries, aiming to significantly increase its global trade footprint. This targeted approach is part of the government’s broader plan to enhance export revenues, diversify market presence, and reduce overdependence on select regions. By leveraging strategic partnerships, trade agreements, and export promotion schemes, India intends to strengthen ties with these nations across continents, boosting sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals to engineering goods.

Gujarat has cemented its position as India’s leading state in merchandise exports for the financial year 2024-25, according to data released by a premier trade body. The western coastal state contributed over 28% of the nation’s total outbound shipments, underscoring its dominance in sectors like petroleum, engineering goods, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka followed in the rankings.
