Reimagining Cybersecurity: Kaspersky’s Vision for a Cyber Immune Future in the AI Era

As artificial intelligence accelerates the evolution of cyber threats, cybersecurity visionary Eugene Kaspersky has issued a stark warning: the traditional methods of digital defense are no longer sufficient. Speaking at GITEX Asia 2025, Kaspersky underscored the urgency of reengineering our digital systems to be cyber immune by design—not merely secure. With cybercriminals exploiting AI to automate and scale attacks, the threat landscape is growing increasingly complex. Yet amid the rising tide of digital warfare, Kaspersky remains cautiously optimistic, championing a future shaped by innovation, systemic redesign, and a global commitment to cybersecurity resilience.

 

The Age of AI-Powered Cybercrime

Cybersecurity has entered a new era—one where artificial intelligence is not only a tool for defenders but also a formidable weapon in the hands of malicious actors. Eugene Kaspersky, founder of the global cybersecurity firm bearing his name, offered a sobering assessment of the digital battlefield during his keynote at GITEX Asia 2025.

He explained that cybercriminals are leveraging AI with increasing sophistication, using it to automate large-scale attacks, craft convincing deepfakes, and exploit social engineering tactics that are alarmingly effective. “If someone calls you, don’t trust anyone. Even if yourself calls yourself, don’t trust,” Kaspersky quipped, underscoring the erosion of digital trust in an AI-dominated environment.

 

Flaws in Conventional Cybersecurity Models

Kaspersky was unequivocal in his criticism of the industry’s prevailing approach to cybersecurity, which relies heavily on patching known vulnerabilities and reacting to incidents post-breach. He described this model as a “dead-end strategy,” arguing that defense cannot keep pace with the velocity of AI-driven threats.

The statistics he cited are chilling: every day, cybercriminals generate approximately 500,000 new and unique malware samples, each presenting fresh challenges for defenders. This staggering volume renders traditional signature-based detection and reactive responses increasingly ineffective.

 

Cyber Immunity: A Paradigm Shift in Digital Defense

To address these escalating threats, Kaspersky introduced the concept of “cyber immunity”—a radical departure from current defensive tactics. Rather than layering more security tools onto flawed systems, he advocates for reengineering technology infrastructure from the ground up, ensuring that systems are inherently immune to cyberattacks.

At the core of this philosophy is restricting application permissions by design, minimizing the attack surface and creating digital environments where malicious code simply cannot function as intended. Kaspersky’s firm has already developed prototypes with tightly controlled architectures, particularly for industrial and critical infrastructure use cases.

While such cyber-immune devices are not yet feasible for mass-market adoption in consumer electronics, their potential for securing essential systems is both real and immediate.

 

Harnessing AI for Defense

Despite AI's dual-use nature, Kaspersky affirmed that defenders are also incorporating artificial intelligence into their arsenals. His company, for example, integrates AI across multiple projects—strengthening threat detection, behavior analysis, and automated response mechanisms.

The key, according to Kaspersky, is not to fear AI, but to balance innovation with responsibility, ensuring that the same technologies empowering cybercriminals are also leveraged ethically by security experts.

 

Collaboration and Education: Pillars of Resilience

Kaspersky’s call to action extended beyond technology. He emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration, particularly between governments and private companies, to create unified defenses against global cybercrime networks. He also pointed to a critical need for public education and awareness, stating that users must be empowered with both knowledge and tools to navigate an increasingly hostile digital ecosystem. 

"The cyber world is getting more and more aggressive," he said, noting the scale of daily threats. But he tempered his warning with hope: “If we have good news, we will survive. We are working on that.”

Kaspersky’s message is clear: the future of cybersecurity will not be won by incremental patches or isolated solutions, but by a holistic transformation of digital design. With AI tilting the scales in favor of threat actors, defenders must adopt a new mindset—one that prioritizes architectural immunity, cross-border cooperation, and continuous innovation.
