SEPC and IAMAI Forge Strategic Alliance to Boost India’s Digital Services Exports

In a decisive move to enhance India’s digital presence on the global stage, the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) have formalized a partnership aimed at promoting the export of Indian digital services. Through this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two organizations will collaborate on resolving trade-related policy hurdles, expanding international market access, and preparing digital enterprises for global engagement. The initiative is expected to focus on high-growth sectors like AdTech, FinTech, HealthTech, SaaS, and digital entertainment, positioning India as a leader in cross-border digital trade.

A Strategic Coalition for Digital Trade Leadership

As the global economy becomes increasingly reliant on digital services, India is actively positioning itself to lead this transition. In pursuit of this objective, the SEPC and IAMAI have entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding to jointly champion India’s digital service exports. The partnership aims to unlock new international opportunities for Indian digital companies while simultaneously working to address structural and regulatory challenges hindering growth.

The alliance brings together the policy-oriented strength of SEPC—an initiative under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry—with IAMAI’s domain expertise and vast network of digital service providers, signaling a united front in expanding India’s digital footprint globally.

Empowering High-Growth Digital Sectors

The collaboration is structured to focus on India’s most promising digital verticals. These include high-potential sectors such as AdTech, FinTech, HealthTech, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), digital entertainment, EdTech, and cross-border e-commerce. These domains not only represent rapid domestic growth but also offer strong export viability in global markets.

By offering market access support, identifying trade friction points, and engaging in policy dialogue, SEPC and IAMAI intend to elevate the international competitiveness of Indian digital businesses. The joint effort will also extend to organizing export-readiness programs and global outreach initiatives to accelerate growth in these verticals.

Establishing Policy Support Mechanisms

A central component of the MoU involves the creation of joint working groups in consultation with relevant government ministries and regulatory bodies. These groups will be responsible for identifying and mitigating trade-related challenges encountered by Indian digital exporters. Key focus areas will include compliance requirements, cross-border data transfer norms, digital taxation frameworks, and market-specific entry barriers.

By streamlining regulatory cooperation, the alliance seeks to cultivate a more agile and responsive export ecosystem—one that enables Indian companies to adapt quickly to global standards and tap into emerging markets.

Leadership Perspective: Aligning Vision with Execution

Commenting on the agreement, Abhay Sinha, Director General of SEPC, emphasized the broader economic implications of empowering digital exporters. “India’s digital sector holds immense potential in the global services economy. Through this partnership with IAMAI, we aim to create meaningful opportunities for digital enterprises to grow their international footprint and benefit from structured policy and trade support,” he stated.

Echoing this sentiment, IAMAI President Dr. Subho Ray remarked, “The collaborative focus will be on scaling sectors that represent the future of digital commerce. With concentrated efforts on verticals like FinTech and SaaS, this initiative will ensure India’s digital services are not only globally competitive but strategically placed to lead the next phase of global tech-led exports.”

A Roadmap for India’s Digital Trade Ambitions

The timing of this collaboration is critical. With global demand for digital services surging and emerging economies investing heavily in digital infrastructure, India’s competitive advantage lies in its vast talent pool, technological innovation, and entrepreneurial dynamism. However, maximizing this potential requires structured policy backing and seamless access to international markets.

The SEPC-IAMAI partnership seeks to bridge that gap, offering not just advocacy, but a roadmap to scale, supported by actionable strategy and institutional coordination.

Conclusion: Building a Borderless Digital Economy

India’s aspiration to become a global digital services powerhouse is not a distant vision—it is a tangible goal being shaped by initiatives like the SEPC-IAMAI alliance. By addressing regulatory friction, enhancing market access, and nurturing sector-specific growth, the collaboration lays the groundwork for a borderless digital economy rooted in Indian innovation.

As the partnership matures, it may well serve as a benchmark for how emerging economies can unite institutional capability with industry insight to navigate the evolving landscape of global digital trade.
