The Ministry of Labour & Employment has signed a strategic partnership with food delivery giant Swiggy to foster employment opportunities in India’s gig and logistics sectors. The collaboration, announced on Tuesday, aims to create over 12 lakh job openings within the next 2-3 years, targeting youth in urban and semi-urban areas. By integrating Swiggy’s gig and delivery roles onto the National Career Service (NCS) portal, the initiative will provide a more dynamic and accessible job market for millions of job seekers across the country.

A Groundbreaking Partnership for Employment Generation

In a significant move to boost employment in India’s fast-growing gig economy, the Ministry of Labour & Employment has entered into a partnership with Swiggy, one of the country’s leading food delivery platforms. The initial agreement aims to facilitate over 12 lakh employment opportunities in the next 2-3 years, providing a lifeline to job seekers in the gig and logistics sectors. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, marking a milestone in government-industry collaboration to address employment challenges.

National Career Service Portal: A Catalyst for Job Creation

The National Career Service (NCS) Portal, already a vital platform connecting millions of job seekers with employers across India, will play a central role in this initiative. As of January 31, 2025, the platform boasts over 1.25 crore active job seekers and more than 40 lakh registered employers. Its reach will now extend to the burgeoning gig economy, providing flexible, location-based job opportunities for millions of young Indians, especially in urban and semi-urban areas.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the NCS portal’s crucial role in workforce mobilization across the country. He emphasized that this collaboration with Swiggy would enhance the platform’s capabilities, making it an even more powerful tool in the fight against unemployment.

Swiggy’s Role in Expanding the Gig Economy

The partnership will allow Swiggy to tap into the NCS portal’s diverse and skilled talent pool, which will help streamline its recruitment process for gig and logistics roles, including delivery positions. These positions will be regularly updated and verified in real-time on the portal, ensuring that job seekers have immediate access to legitimate, verified job opportunities.

Swiggy, which has become a household name in India for food delivery, will use the NCS platform to post gig, delivery, and support roles across both urban and semi-urban regions. The move is expected to increase visibility for these roles, facilitating faster and more efficient job placements for millions of individuals seeking employment in these sectors.

Long-Term Vision for Youth Employment

Both the Ministry and Swiggy are confident that the collaboration will empower young Indians, particularly in the gig economy, where jobs are often flexible but lack visibility and structured recruitment pathways. By integrating Swiggy’s job offerings into the NCS portal, millions of young job seekers will be able to access verified, on-demand work that matches their skills and preferences.

The initiative is particularly timely, given the growing demand for flexible and location-based employment options across the country. For Swiggy, it presents an opportunity to connect with a vast pool of job-ready candidates, while also supporting the Indian government’s broader mission to increase youth employment and promote economic inclusivity.

Conclusion: A Win-Win for All Stakeholders

The collaboration between Swiggy and the Ministry of Labour & Employment represents a transformative moment for India’s job market, especially within the gig and logistics sectors. The integration of Swiggy’s job listings on the NCS portal not only increases the visibility of flexible employment but also offers job seekers a reliable, verified, and timely way to access opportunities.

As the gig economy continues to flourish in India, partnerships like these are critical in ensuring that India’s workforce remains dynamic, adaptable, and ready to meet the demands of a fast-evolving job market. Through this initiative, both the government and Swiggy are setting the stage for a more inclusive and accessible future of work in India.
