Motorola is poised to expand its G-series lineup in India with the anticipated launch of the Moto G96 5G, a mid-range smartphone aimed at striking a balance between performance, design, and affordability. While the company has yet to confirm the official name or release date, teasers on Flipkart and credible leaks suggest a launch is imminent. With expected pricing around Rs. 22,000, the device is likely to feature a premium vegan leather finish, a 144Hz pOLED display, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, and a 50MP Sony Lytia primary sensor—placing it as a strong competitor in India’s crowded 5G segment.

Imminent Launch of Moto G96 5G in India

Motorola, following the successful debut of the Edge 60 series earlier this month, is preparing to unveil a new G-series smartphone—widely speculated to be the Moto G96 5G. Although an official confirmation remains pending, Flipkart teasers and reports from tech media point to a launch window within the coming month.

The company’s teaser campaign highlights a premium design language, aligning with Motorola’s current strategy of offering feature-rich smartphones across price segments.

Expected Price and Variants

The Moto G96 5G is expected to debut at approximately Rs. 22,000, positioning it competitively in the mid-range 5G category.

Motorola is reportedly planning to release the device in a range of vibrant colour options, including Green, Blue, Pink, and Teal Blue, catering to younger consumers and those seeking a stylish, personalized aesthetic.

Design and Display Specifications

One of the standout features of the upcoming Moto G96 5G is its design. Leaked renders suggest a dual-camera setup housed in two vertically aligned circular modules, paired with a vegan leather back panel, likely aimed at offering both visual appeal and enhanced grip.

The front is said to boast a 6.67-inch pOLED display with quad-curved edges and a punch-hole selfie camera. The panel is expected to support a 144Hz refresh rate, ensuring smoother animations and an elevated viewing experience—particularly appealing for gamers and content consumers.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Moto G96 5G is anticipated to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, a capable processor designed for high-efficiency 5G connectivity and multitasking. Paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, the smartphone appears to be well-equipped for both performance-intensive tasks and future-proofing.

Motorola is expected to ship the device with Android 15, layered with its custom Hello UI—a light, near-stock experience with select Motorola enhancements.

Camera Capabilities

On the imaging front, the device is rumoured to feature a 50MP Sony Lytia 700C primary sensor, known for superior colour science and dynamic range. It will likely be accompanied by an 8MP macro lens, though an ultra-wide sensor seems to be omitted, possibly to keep costs in check.

For selfies and video calling, the Moto G96 5G is expected to offer a 32MP front-facing camera, housed in the top-centre punch-hole cutout.

Battery, Charging, and Durability

Battery life is set to be another highlight. The Moto G96 5G is expected to pack a 5,500mAh battery, with support for 68W fast charging—a specification that could appeal to heavy users and on-the-go professionals.

In terms of durability, the device may carry an IP68 rating, offering protection against dust ingress and temporary water submersion, thus enhancing its overall robustness.

Smart Features and Ecosystem Integration

A key differentiator could be Motorola’s Smart Connect feature, which allows seamless integration between the phone and Lenovo PCs. This cross-device compatibility could particularly benefit productivity-focused users looking for a cohesive ecosystem across platforms.

Conclusion

The upcoming Moto G96 5G represents Motorola’s continued commitment to the Indian smartphone market, offering a well-rounded package of design, performance, and camera capabilities at a mid-range price point. With a strong brand legacy and renewed focus on user-centric innovation, Motorola seems poised to challenge rivals in a segment traditionally dominated by Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung. As the launch date approaches, all eyes will be on whether the Moto G96 5G can deliver on its promising specifications and help Motorola consolidate its presence in India's rapidly evolving 5G landscape.
